I've ordered an Acer Aspire One 10. 1 netbook (AOD150-1165) February 28, 2009, from the Amazon. Article delivery 2 March and arrived March 14.
When I ordered the blue sapphire was available, but I'm happy to blue sapphire. Seems very interesting. I normally for both white and black models, but I'm glad that was not available:) The only thing I can complain, but is easily fingerprinted then j 'try not to touch the shiny surfaces.
1. 6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor is single core, but is much stronger and certainly more than enough for most types of office. The netbook has Windows XP Home w/SP3 installed instead of Vista so for me it feels as sensitive as (or better) than a Core 2 Duo for notebooks running Vista.
The camera is rather quiet. The noise of the fan or the hard disk is minimal. The fan does not come on often during normal use. Might be more active with some heavy CPU tasks / activities HD.
The screen is 1024×600 CrystalBright (slide) type LCD, but very comfortable to read in various lighting conditions. This is an integrated 0. 3M megapixel (640×480) Webcam and microphone built into the display bezel. Ideal for using a phone / video conferencing software like Skype, etc. BTW, to earn some 'of vertical space on your desktop, you should put the Windows XP taskbar to auto-hide and pop-ups when you move the cursor to the edge of the screen.
The keyboard is actually pretty well designed. Unlike some models of its competitors, switching, control, alt, tab, enter, backspace keys are all in the right places. Initially I found the keys a little 'small, but after a few days of use, and you get used to avoid hitting two keys. The keys might be a bit 'bigger than it has space on the lower right side of the keyboard.
The touchpad on this model consists of Synaptics and is very configurable. Like everything else is a bit 'small, but it works pretty well. It would have been better if it were larger. Touchpad buttons is another story. Are correctly located under the touchpad, but instead of using two independent buttons, the designers have chosen to use a bar over the two buttons. This makes the buttons much more difficult to press. I would have preferred two buttons independent. I think it's the biggest complaint for the design of this netbook. However, the buttons will be attenuated over time. I softened by pressing buttons on both ends of the button bar at the same time repeatedly. I have to do a number of times before you use the laptop everyday. So it is not that desperate.
Well, I tried to get me used to build the keyboard and mouse, but those that make extensive work can still connect a USB keyboard and mouse. For example, Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 is a perfect partner.
Alternatively, you can press the touch pad instead of pressing buttons. The Synaptics touchpad is very configurable. You can set a corner of the touchpad on the right and elsewhere, where would the left button.
The speakers of this netbook is below. They are of excellent quality and the sound is pretty decent. However, since the openings of the speakers are below the netbook if you are taking on a soft surface like a carpet or bed can get the sound that the openings will be blocked. This is not a good idea to keep him on a soft surface for a long period in any event, because it blocks the air vents and overheat and cause a netbook.
There are 1 GB DDR2 SODIMM RAM module installed (mine was made by Samsung). There is no memory card soldered (the description on Amazon is incorrect and refers to adolescents 8. 9 "model). The memory is easily expandable to 2GB by replacing the SODIMM. I upgraded the memory 10. 1 "Aspire One to 2 GB for installation of a" Mushkin 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory – Retail "Module (part # Mushkin 991,618). It works great! Please note that this form is CAS4 (4-4-4-12) distribution rather CAS5 more frequent (5-5-5-16). In other words, is slightly faster than the memory, because it has less wait states:)
The hard disk is a Hitachi HTS543216L9A300, 160 GB 2. 5 "5400 RPM, Serial ATA interface, 8MB of disk cache. It 'pretty quiet. I think there is much room for many applications. If you need, you can connect an external USB hard drive or hard drive itself can be updated almost as readily as RAM.
Chip wireless (AR5007EG) is made by Atheros and supports 802. 11b / g. The range is pretty decent. I had no problems connecting to my access point Wi-Fi at home, work or other free public hotspots. I used wifi at Starbucks, Barnes and Noble Bookstore and McDonald's, among others (I Get Free WiFi at these places, since I have AT & T DSL). However, some users report that they have some problems. Atheros driver installed by default is old (version 7. 6. 0. 260). The last one I found for the chipset AR5007EG WiFi is version 7. 6. 1. 244 (dated 2/25/2009) and I think that could solve the problems that some people experience. (For convenience, I have given instructions at the bottom of the review of access to updated drivers) The properties of the device indicates that the Wi-Fi chip is configured for maximum energy savings. Incidentally, as RAM and hard drive, wireless module is also available. Who knows, someone (or Acer), would come with a spare module 802. 11n or a combo WiFi + Bluetooth.
There is no built-in Bluetooth capability. If you need to interface with Bluetooth devices, you must purchase a USB adapter as CIRAGE BTA3210 Bluetooth v2. 1 EDR Class 2 Micro Bluetooth Adapter, or you can get a combo with a Bluetooth mouse Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black) Update: Apparently, the Acer Aspire One AOD150 build models for some Asian markets are equipped to build – in Bluetooth. It 'a shame that the Bluetooth is not included for the American version. (
Like many other "early adopters", the laptop comes with built Panasonic 5800mAh, 59W battery. It takes 7-8h of work under normal office type with Wi-Fi enabled. This is a battery of larger capacity than what would normally ship (4400m, up to 6 cells), but most everyone has the largest so far.
There are 3x USB 2. 0 ports, 1x 10/100 Ethernet port, 1x external VGA monitor port and a single multi-format flash memory card Reader / Writer (once again, the Amazon description is wrong about 2 SD card slots). There is also a headphone jack and external microphone and a slot for Kensington lock style.
There is also a slot for 3G SIM chip near the battery. My netbook has the slot, but no 3G equipment there to accept the SIM card. Presumably some models will be equipped to have a 3G wireless capabilities.
A difference of 8. 9 "predecessor, this 10. 1 model does not have a case. I have a neoprene sleeve in a local shop that was designed for a 11 "laptop (Sony VAIO 11. 1-inch Neoprene Carrying Case). Please note that with a 6-cell battery for the netbook width is about 8. 5. Thus, most 10 "cases, with a width of about 7-8" will be able or will not require signficant extends to choose your case accordingly. In fact, personally I use both. The neoprene sleeve is inside a larger 12-13 "Laptop Bag with pockets of sufficient storage for the charger and other cables. When I go to a cafe, I only take the netbook to manage and leave the rest in the car.
The netbook also does not come with recovery disks in the system. There is a utility to recover pre-installed Acer, which will create the recovery discs for you. You should do as soon as possible. You never know when you need it. You will need a USB reader attached CD / DVD burner and some recordable media (6 CD-R for the system recovery 2 + applications and drivers, or 2 DVD-R for the Recovery + 1 DVD-R for applications and drivers). I bought a NU Slim USB External CD-ROM DVD Burner ESW860 and has worked for me. E 'thin enough to wear with the netbook and you can watch a DVD, if you want. You should be able to use it on any computer, laptop or desktop with USB 2. 0 Interface. Update: You can also order a set of recovery CDs directly from Acer for $ 20. You must go to Acer support website www. acerpanam. com and click on the map of the United States and select "eRecovery CD Purchase" link. Check the serial number of the first netbooks.
In addition, Windows XP Home, MS Works ago, a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 version of 30 days of McAfee anti-virus suite and a couple other trialware installed. These can be easily uninstalled from Control Panel, if you want (or need).
Overall I'm very satisfied and highly recommend it. Obviously, I can not speak for the customer service that I did not need to use the service. If your goal is to run normal applications and surf the net with a decent screen size is good.

Update: Update driver Atheros AR5007EG Wi-Fi:
You can download the version 7. 6. 1. 244 (2/25/2009) free drivers Softpedia. Go to drivers. Softpedia. com AR5007EG and enter into the search box above. Download the zip file (ar5_ar9_7. 6. 1. 244. Zip) and decompress it. Then go to Install_CD sub-folder and start the installation. exe. When prompted to choose to update the driver. It 'easy and painless. . . If you still have problems after updating the driver, change the channel the access point / router. There is a strong interference in May by a near-wireless router / access point. Good luck!
I was worried about getting one as I had a 12 "laptop and was not happy with the size of the screen. But this screen is so bright that it becomes a problem, let alone 1064×600 makes it really seem bigger!
Another bonus, this child is 7. 5 to 8 hours due to 5800Amh 6-cell battery! Sweet. Very happy with this. I heard most were shipping with the phone 4400Amh 6 which gives you 5-6 hours. Can I run that day or two before each refill, very nice! I must continue to seek control of the battery in the speech, I think the battery is still at 75% or 50%, only lasts for ever!
This course is super portable and do not really know how laptops should be. You can put on one leg, do not weigh down actually sitting on his knee, which is nice. I have had many phones over the years, the size of the screen and the second wins hands down in price and performance. The unit is heavy when there is strong compared to some recent mobile thin plastic.
Acer is a nice mini-laptop with a better one. The screen is larger and equally brilliant. The keyboard is still big (a little '). N strange place right shift key placement (Asus, Lenovo, etc..) Buttons Mousepad below the touchpad are not along the side (yeah). Now it's easy to increase the RAM or replace the disk without having to completely disassemble the unit and void the warranty. I have no complaints. I loved the first, which corrects all the criticisms of the first. Nothing important just refinement. Someone is listening to its customers and Acer.
Addendum: the screen is bright and early orders are most 5900ma battery. Keep the shot in the back a bit ', but the running time is amazing. Should be longer race of mini-laptop does not, including the new ASU 1000HE and Samsung 10NC, for much less $ $. This is a victory in my book. Easy to touch type (for me), looks good, I need a slot for xD and it was a 7-1, there is some 'swelling in ceramic, just delete it and save what you need, l' HD is big enough.
