The Aspire 4800, a scenario models of Acer, has earned the name "all day" notebook because it provides up to 8. 0 hours of battery life, allowing users to switch disconnected all day. The addition of portability, this notebook is its compactness and lightness. The Aspire 4800 with 14. 0 "LCD is only 4. 2 pounds and a fraction more than an inch in height on its highest point. I used the script Acer (14 inches, Aspire 4810TZ-4011) last night and so far so good. Here are my first impressions:
1. The delivery was fast and packaging was good.
2. The appearance of the laptop is fantastic. The love of the isolation-type keyboard. The hinges of the screen have been stronger but for a light machine seems ok.
3. The eject button on the CD, different ports, card reader, are all very conveniently located.
4. The screen colors are beautiful. There are configuration options to adjust the taste, but I do not need to use them.
5. The handset is easy to configure. I charge the battery for about an hour before you start, perhaps an overdose, and was rewarded with a blue light coming from under the touchpad.
6. Configure Vista for the first time was much faster than my last install XP on a Netbook. It seems natural to this day.
7. Shortly after the start I was asked to create recovery discs, and made two DVDs with the system and other software.
8. E '(was) a lot of software pre-loaded. I spent a long time to discover what he does (on Google) and cleaning very fine.
9. People who have complained of performance problems can be expected to take care of removing the backup software redundant (two or three of these pre-installed? "), The process Anti-virus and other nonsense FUD.
10. I registerted to obtain a free copy of Windows 7 for the owners of scenario, to be delivered in the month of October (woot!).
11. Establish Skype (after rec fight for some time with the firewall settings of Vista), and launched an appeal – the sound is good, the microphone is positioned correctly, the camera works very well, even better after removing the protective sheet of plastic)
12. Tested a YouTube video in HD and is not smooth, which was a disappointment.
Comparing my 4y old station, the scenario of Acer almost feels stronger, much quieter, cooler, lighter than 2 pounds, with 6 times more RAM, 4 times longer battery life, and a latest processor — update evident in all aspects.
I got my Acer Aspire 4810TZ for all three days, and I am very satisfied. Some observations:
The keys are well spaced for me. . . The keyboard has a good idea. The glossy black finish is a shame, because they show smudges immediately. The trackpad button does indeed require steel thumb, but adapts well to click left and right without being separated into two buttons.
I am amazed at how happy I am with the screen. I do not like the screen of glass, but until the backlight is intense, can be used for very bright light. This is the case with this screen. The resolution is very cool. I have no need or desire to adjust the color settings.
Speakers are not huge in terms of volume, but I can not imagine that incorporate a review of this quirk. The handset is slim and lightweight – Get Some headphones!
Battery life is phenomenal, as announced, the first time I ever had a laptop that has less than 50% of battery life advertised.
The CPU is probably a bit 'of power for Vista, but not very well. I'm sure I'll be happiest with Windows 7 when it comes out.
Now, for Linux. I reduced the partition of Vista down with a drastic Ubuntu GParted 9. 04 live CD. After it was done and I rebooted, Vista decided that something was wrong and started a repair process that has taken much time to implement (2 hours +). Then it was raised in Vista and I had no problem with him.
I formatted most of the space freed to engage in Ubuntu. I was completely overwhelmed by many worked immediately: the sound, wireless keyboard, volume control, webcam, USB. . . wow. After upgrading to a kernel just over nine (2 .. 6 30), wireless is now properly after being suspended, and control of the keyboard works display brightness. I can not think of anything that does not work other than multitouch gestures on the touchpad. Battery life seems to be as good as when running Windows. Speed for the tools of my trade is great when running under Linux: emacs, X Windows, SSH, Firefox and Flash.
Contrary to a previous review, I am in no way a casual user, I do software development and I am still a user of software. But not a player or a guy who needs Photoshop graphics. I tend to see my laptop as a window on the development server using SSH and X, and a window on the Web using a browser. For these uses, this little laptop is fully capable. Thus, both the casual geek can find happiness with the Acer 4810.
I held for 10 days.
Just noticed! the DVD does not burn DVDs. . . I did a full system recovery, and Nope. . . simply can not! I would leave three stars if I could change my opinion, because the Acer warranty service is free, easily accessible and very courteous. I have not seen, because if the international interest is worth something that I took in France, or do I mail in the United States. . . I have a lemon, it happens.
Forget this rare anomaly, and focus on the rest
Positive aspects:
– I like the keyboard (buttons flat, well spaced, glossy surface … Yes, the fingerprints stay cool and remains)
– Very quiet fan
– Very bright display with LED backlight, with no problems at work beyond
– Top computer and the screen does not get hot at all
– Two operations finger on the touchpad (zoom in and out with two fingers, keep scrolling with the circular motion from front to rear sliding right and left)
– Careful design (all), seems intelligent, he feels sturdy
– Connections audio jack on the side
– Technical Nice (320GB HD, 3GB DDR3)
– Great battery life
– Quite fast
– Stable
– Digital Audio
– HDMI and VGA video output
– Do not restarted once on its (crushed) during the rapid transmission of a video on VLC, but I can not do it again, I think it was fixed at the latest Windows Update (in any case, this is a problem with Vista which bind the updates from Windows 7, or can not be solved if you have already purchase auto-updates)
– Free upgrade to Windows 7 (the form is in the Computer box, the dealer tells you about it or not)
Negative
– The sound quality is nice, but not very strong
– No FireWire port! come-on, as you can connect the camcorder – Sure, you can by an adapter
